Adopted Sturgeon - The Wheatley Family

The Wheatley Family proudly welcomes the newest member of their family - this baby sturgeon! Jeff Wheatley encountered this sturgeon and was eager to adopt it into his family. Shown here, this fish is calmly placed in a sling filled with sufficient water while being measured, assessed and tagged as part of our ongoing research. (Check our research and reports page for more info on our research).

This little sturgeon is an important part of our research effort - fish in this size range have been steadily decreasing in recent years and we are urgently working to learn more about their habitat, issues they face and to create optimal conditions for them to grow and survive. As we track this fish over the coming years, it will give us insight into its life experiences, the distances they travel and what types of habitat they favour and return to. All this data will help us to take critical actions to help ensure their survival. The Wheatley Family looks forward to learning about the adventures of this fish through regular updates and recapture data.

Thank you to The Wheatley Family for your support.
